The academic year 2023-24 has come to a close, marking my third year at this esteemed institution. My teaching focus has revolved around cross-cultural communication, contextualization issues, mission anthropology, and perspectives on global missions.
Drawing on our experience as former missionaries to the Indigenous peoples of Northwest Canada, my exploration of the Asia Pacific regions in academia has been profoundly enriching. There’s a notable affinity between the Indigenous cultures of the North Pacific and Asia, and our extensive two-decade experience with the Nuu-chah-nulth peoples has been invaluable in deepening our understanding of anthropological dynamics in the South Pacific and among the Mountain Tribes of the Philippines.
While adjusting to a new environment, Lydia has remained steadfastly dedicated to her responsibilities, even when faced with the minor challenges of local wildlife, such as lizards and roaches. We are deeply grateful for the continuous support and commissioning from the Northwestern Presbytery (USA), bolstered by the prayers of our friends and family.
Recent adjustments to our living situation have been made to address health concerns, yet our commitment to our educational mission remains unwavering. We eagerly anticipate the upcoming academic year 2024-25, ready to engage further with our students and colleagues at the Asia Pacific Theological Seminary.
Our heartfelt thanks extend to all my students and the seminary community for enriching this academic journey. Your dedication and curiosity make it all worthwhile.
2023-24 학년도가 마무리되며, 이 명문 기관에서의 제 세 번째 해가 되었습니다. 제 교육은 문화 간 커뮤니케이션, 맥락화 문제, 선교 인류학, 그리고 세계 선교에 대한 관점을 중심으로 전개되었습니다.
캐나다 북서부 원주민들에 대한 선교사로서의 우리 경험을 바탕으로, 학계에서 아시아 태평양 지역에 대한 탐구는 매우 풍부한 경험이었습니다. 북태평양과 아시아의 원주민 문화 사이에는 뚜렷한 친연성이 있으며, 누차눌스(Nuu-chah-nulth) 인들과의 이십 년간의 광범위한 경험은 남태평양과 필리핀의 산악 부족들 사이의 인류학적 역학을 깊이 이해하는 데 매우 소중했습니다.
새로운 환경에 적응하는 과정에서도, 리디아는 도마뱀과 바퀴벌레와 같은 현지 야생동물의 사소한 도전에 직면해도 그녀의 책임에 굳건히 전념해 왔습니다. 우리는 북서부 장로교회(Presbytery) (미국)로부터의 지속적인 지원과 위임, 그리고 친구와 가족들의 기도에 깊이 감사드립니다.
건강 문제를 해결하기 위해 최근에 우리의 생활 상황을 조정했지만, 우리의 교육적 사명에 대한 약속은 변함없습니다. 우리는 2024-25 학년도를 기대하며, 아시아 태평양 신학교의 학생들과 동료들과 더 깊이 교류할 준비가 되어 있습니다.
